/ EDWARD GORDON CRAIG"The Art of the théâtre"1905.Londres
"The Art of the Theatre". Edward Gordon Craig 1905 First english edition of the first theatral publication by Edward Gordon Craig. There are two hand-written letters joined to this: they are written by Edward Gordon Craig to his editor and critic. This exemplary belonged probably to Edward Gordon Craig himself. Ex-libris. Edward Gordon Craig was director and first of all a theater theorist. He is born in Stevenage in 1872. His mother was an actress, his father an architect, who had a passion for theater. He began to be director in 1900 and in 1905 he published in German his first theoretical considerations. He wanted to give new air to theater in setting it free from the influence of literature. In order to succeed in that, he tried to impose his vision of theatral art. He wanted to oppose realistic decor and psychologic play of actors to an art made by move, colours, play of light and shade, where gestures are more important than language. This revolutionary conception of theater made him as a spirit master for many directors and scenographers.
