André Delfau (born in 1914).Gouache for the ballet "Chantier".Ballets by the Marquis de Cuevas. Gouache on paper .36,6 x46,5 cm. For this ballet André Delfau imagined an abstracted decoration, suspended constructions, kind of cyclorama animated with orange light projections .Reference: "Stage design, for centuries of scenic invention" by Donald Oenslager.Page 213. After studiying at the Ecole des Baux-Arts, André Delfau became an illsurator and decorator of theatre. He created decors and the costumes for "Serenade", "Appolon Musagète" with Balanchine.Three years later, they collaborated together for "the somnanbule" by Bellini for the ballet company of the Marquis de Cuevas, it is the first ballet for which Delfau drew the decors.He created also the costumes for a play by Marivaux at the Comédie Française "les serments indiscrets" in 1956. He realized also may decors for Ruth Page’s Chicago Opera Ballet and for the Royal Opera-ballet of Dannemark.
